The intention with this cyber book, on the Internet, is to develop and maintain an interactive family book in cyberspace. 
I have started it, however it is up to you and your input - your story, your anecdotes and suggestions - which in the final analysis will make it a comprehensive family history book.
Therefore, it is not a finish book- all though it may appear complete - but a book under constant development, depending on the contribution of members and relatives of the Svane family worldwide.
  
 
OM! about the SVANE Families

The Svane family originated from a small obscure town of Ribe, but an important shipping and trading city of the past. A city there in the 14th century land of Denmark was thé religious and knowledge center of Denmark, connecting Scandinavia with Europe. It was at that time Denmark's borders extended to the Norwegian town of Tromsø and half of Sweden was a part of Denmark

It was at that time - to be exact, the 30th of September 1554 - in Ribe Cathedral, that the 54 year old Historian and Royal Teacher Hans Svaning was marriage to, the Merchant & City Council Member, Søren Jacobsen Stage 17 year old daughter - Marine Sørensdatter Stage.

And this is the beginning of the history of the Svane Family, an lineage there goes back to the 11th century and beyond. It is also the beginning of our Family book in cyberspace - a open book - where the extend and quality is determine by your contribution.  

James Baldwin put it this way "Know from whence you came. If you know whence you came, there are absolutely no limitations to where you can go".

This is our book for the future, about our past, a family book in cyberspace.

The first person to bear the name "Svane" were Frederick Svane, born the 7 of may 1557 and baptized in the city of Ribe. Him and his twelve sisters and brothers, bear the roots of the SVANE family, and our history in the space of time.

Out of Hans Svaning og Marine Stage flock of children of 15 has the descendants swept over the land in and around towns like: 

  • Viborg (Thorum Junget)

  • Helgenæs (Randers),

  • Haderslev,

  • Præstø/Slagelse,

  • Marstal på Ærø

  • Norway, Sweden, USA, South America, Australia etc.

Out of the 15 children Af Hans Svaning og Marine Stage 15 børn skete der efter alt at dømme følgende:

2.  died in childbirth

3.  died young un marriage  (Frederik, Niels, Søren)

1.  was exiled (Jens)

3.  girls was marriage to university professors (Abel, Karine, Marine).

1.  girl was adopted (Marine II)

Out of the original flock of 14, is it only under half the flock there make up the roots of the family as we know it to day:

  • Hans Svane - Maren Kristensdatter Friis

  • Marine Svanedatter - marriage in Ribe with Anders Sørensen Vedel

  • Dorthea Svaning - marriage with Ribe Rådmand Jens Lavgesen

  • Jens Svane - marriage with an unknown - Daughter Ingeborg & Maren

  • Karina Svane - marriage with Professor Peder Ågesen København

  • Kirstine Svane - marriage with Maabjerg priest Bertel Madsen/Niels Viladsen

  • Anne Svane - marriage with Horsens major Hans Riber

In the 18th Century, a great del of Danes went to USA, primary to Utah, San Francisco and the North East of USA. Among them was some of our ancestors, who by the time have made substantial inroads in numbers and heritage in the US.

I have however focused mostly with the roots in Denmark and that part of the family, leaving it up to the descendants in the US to make their own pedigree charts and get them attach to the roots here in Denmark, through this homepage.
