Fishermans Street - Ribe

The preservation of old houses was initiated by Ribe Tourist Association in 1899, with the hope of promoting the importance of the town as a tourist attraction. Now, about 110 buildings have become preserved as part of the national heritage and since 1960 the Town Council has made the old town area the subject of preservation.

What is the purpose  
The purpose is to re-establish our roots - the roots of the Svane family - and to inform about the Svane family and it's history back in the 15th century.
To achieve that, we had to consider to make family book in cyberspace, in order to come in contact with ancestors of the Svane Family or persons who have an interest in the Family.
The aim is to gather the family ties together in a network - and to tell our story - the story about the Svane family and its history from the 12th century to today.
And it is a family with some unique old ties and personalities in Danish history.
To name a few;

a royal teacher- and a historian, Hans Svaning 1503 -1584

a grandchild named Hans Svane which became an archbishop and a key player in the farmers revolt in the 16th century, 

2 renowned poets in the 18 century namely Ludvig Holberg and Johannes Ewald.

The family goes back to the year 1554, when it was first acknowledge as a family name.
The first person to bear the name "Svane" were Frederick Svane, born the 7 of may 1557 and baptized in the city of Ribe. Him and his twelve sisters and brothers, bear the roots of the SVANE family, and our history in the space of time.
But where did they all go, the descendants of good old Hans Svaning,  what did they do, where are they and what do they do today?      
There is a lot of vibration out there, of people seeking their roots, of stories to be told and history to be made, in Norway, Sweden as well as in Denmark and the Americas where the vibrations seems the loudest.
In that, the Internet is a blessing, and a formidable tool to learn about the Svane Family, to collect information about the family and tell about your roots and family history.
It is thought that this cyber family book to be pages of Svane family history, pages there are spread worldwide, yet having the look of one book, a consensus of a one family history.
